Mucous membranes, especially

  • Oral
  • Vaginal 

Skin, nail

Skin scrapings and nail clippings; biopsy is rarely required.

Cornea

Corneal scraping or biopsy; prior arrangements must be made with the pathologist for direct inoculation into culture media.

Systemic Infections

Blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid (as appropriate) - fungal microscopy and culture tissue biopsy.
