Ectopic ACTH syndrome

CausesAppropriate Tests

Due to the short time course, patients may present with pigmentation and electrolyte abnormalities, rather than with classical Cushingoid features.

Electrolytes; cortisol (free) - urine; ACTH.

Dexamethasone suppression test (long) if diagnosis uncertain.

Lung carcinoma, especially

  • Small cell carcinoma
