CausesAppropriate Tests

Clinical assessment to detect underlying disorder. FBC, ALP, AST, ALT, GGT, LD, bilirubin, lipase or amylase, antinuclear antibodies as appropriate.

Diagnosis established by deep skin biopsy, including subcutaneous fat.

Trauma, especially

  • Cold injury

Pancreatitis

Lymphoma (non-Hodgkin's)

SLE

Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency 

Alpha-1-antitrypsin.

Idiopathic (Weber-Christian disease)
