Endoscopic biopsy and/or brushings to exclude neoplasm and to detect Helicobacter pylori. The organism is detected by histology and the urease test - gastric or duodenal ulcer; culture for susceptibility testing may be indicated in patients with recurrent or non-responsive disease. Serology for H. pylori is seldom indicated. The urease test - breath may be useful to monitor effectiveness of therapy. | |
