5-10 mL blood in plain tube; acute and convalescent samples.
To establish the diagnosis of cat scratch fever (infection with Bartonella henselae) in patients with a suggestive clinical syndrome.
A rise in titre between acute and convalescent samples supports the clinical diagnosis of cat scratch disease.
If available, PCR detection of the organism in an appropriate biopsy specimen is a more sensitive test.
