4.5 mL blood added to 0.5 mL citrate.

Method

Reptilase is derived from the venom of Bothrops atrox, and clots fibrinogen by a mechanism different from that of thrombin.

Reference Interval

Consult laboratory. Typically <20 seconds.

Application

Investigation of patients with prolonged thrombin time.

Interpretation

Assists in differentiating the effect of heparin, presence of FDP and dysfibrinogenaemia.
