Application

Diagnosis of bullous skin diseases.

Differentiates pemphigus from pemphigoid.

Interpretation

Intercellular cement substance antibodies (also known as desmoglein antibodies) are specific for pemphigus.

Titres correlate with disease activity and effect of treatment.

Pemphigus-like antibodies occur in burns, drug reactions and other disorders with extensive skin damage.
