| Application | Rarely indicated. Suspected acute pancreatitis with normal serum amylase. Persistent, significant elevation of serum amylase if macroamylasaemia is suspected. |
| Interpretation | Urine level may be increased in acute pancreatitis at a time when the serum amylase level has returned to within the reference interval. High serum and low urine amylase levels are seen in macroamylasaemia. Use of an amylase/creatinine clearance ratio is not recommended. |
