Results on random urine are expressed as a ratio with creatinine.

Depends on method.

Application

Diagnosis and monitoring of conditions with increased bone collagen breakdown, especially monitoring of treatment in patients with post­menopausal osteoporosis.

Interpretation

Deoxypyridinoline is specific for bone collagen. Pyridinoline can be derived from bone or tooth.

If excretion is increased it indicates an increase of bone breakdown.
