| Application | The serum level reflects the extent of laying down of bone matrix. Thus, it is potentially useful in disorders where this is abnormal or is changed by therapy. It has been used to monitor the treatment of osteoporosis and of Paget’s disease of bone, although in the latter, serum alkaline phosphatase is preferred. |
