| Application | Diagnosis of coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis. |
| Interpretation | Transglutaminase antibodies (IgA) have a specificity of greater than 90% for diagnosis of coeliac disease. The test may be negative in patients with coeliac disease assiciated with IgA deficiency. IgA transglutaminase antibodies have largely superseded endosymial antibodies in the diagnosis of coeliac disease. IgG transglutaminase antibodies may have some role in diagnosis of coeliac disease in patients with IgA deficiency. |
